THEOLOGY

                                                           DOCTRINE OF GOD (Theology)

INTRODUCTION:

God (Jehovah) is an intelligent, sovereign, holy, just, perfect, and infinite, personal being. He is known as an all-powerful, all-knowing, and ever-present God.  The God of the Old Testament is the same God of the New Testament.  His existence is taken for granted by the Scripture writers.  It did not seem to have occurred to any of the writers of either the Old or New Testaments to attempt to prove or to argue for the existence of God.  Everywhere and at all times it is a fact taken for granted.  “A God capable of proof would be no God at all”

(1) He is the self-existent One, Exod. 3:14

(2) The source of all life,  John 5:26

He is God in creative skill. (Gen. Chapter 1)

The purpose, order and design we observe in the world calls for a designer.  Psalms 19:2 states that the world is evidence of the Creator’s knowledge. What did God do in Genesis chapter one?  He Created

1st day             Verse 1            God created Heaven and Earth

Verse 3            God created Light

Verse 4            God created separation (day from night)

2nd day            Verse 6-8        God created firmament (heaven) and water

3rd day             Verse 9           God created land (earth)and Seas

Verse 11-12     God created grass, fruit trees, and herb seeds

4th day             Verse 14-17    God created the greater light (Sun) and the lesser light (Moon)

5th day             Verse 20-22  God created Whales, fish, fowls, everything that’s in the water and all fowls.  And God created the multiplying system.

6th day            Verse 24-30  God created cattle, creeping things, beasts, mankind (male and female), controlling power.

“There is a Sovereign, all powerful, all knowing, ever present creator called God

He is God in infinite love.

The extreme depravity of the heart of man brought out the love of God which not only cuts up sin by the roots, but transforms the sinner from a curse into a blessing, from darkness to light, from a servant of Satan to a messenger of God. (Read John 3:16)

Isa. 38:17                     Love forgets the past

Romans 5:8                 Love demonstrates

I John 4:8-16               Love provides a loving personality

God is LIGHT, God is SPIRIT, and God is LOVE.  Spirit and Light are expressions of God’s essential expression.  Love is the expression of His personality corresponding to His nature.  God always dwells in the atmosphere of love.             “The cross of Calvary is the highest level of love that God has for sinful man”

A thought to ponder:

What is the measure of God’s love?    (John 17:23, “as thou hast loved me”)

What is the object of God’s love?        (John 3:16, “the world”)

How does God love?                              (Hosea 14:4, “freely”)

What has God’s love done for us?       (I John 4:10, “propitiation for our sins”)

What will God’s love do for us?          (Eph. 5:27, (present); Jude, (present you faultless)

He is God in active grace.

Grace is an English word used in the New Testament to translate the Greek word Charis which means, “favor, pleasure, gift, or benefit”, without payment or work of any kind.  If there was any payment however so slight, it would not be grace. (Read Ephesians 1:7, how big is God’s grace?)

Luke 15:20                  Coming home to God with out retribution (Verse 20, grace in action, what grace)

Ephesians 2:8-9        Grace a gift not works

Romans 3:24               Free grace

Romans 11:5-6           Grace is grace and works is works, they do not mix.

Titus 2:11                    Appeared to all men

A thought to ponder:

  1. The total dependence of man on the grace of God is especially evident in the book of Isaiah. (Isa. 64:8)
  2. According to Titus 2:11, mankind has no excuse, past, present, and future.
  3. The best Bible definition of grace can be found in Titus 3:4.

He is God in fatherly relationship.

The title of Father describes God’s roles as Father of all creation, Father of the only begotten Son, and Father of the born-again believer.  Father refers to God in family relationship to man.
