HAMARTIALOGY

                                                        DOCTRINE OF SIN (Hamartialogy)

INTRODUCTION:

The present standing, before God, and condition of mankind, outside of the redemption that is in Jesus Christ, is that there is no distinction.  All are sinners, every mouth is stopped, all are under a curse, all are children of the devil, all are darkened in understanding, all are deceitful in heart, the entire moral and intellectual nature is corrupted by sin, for all are LOST.

Coming to the Bible’s estimation of sin, there is no study so revealing.  And our obligation is to study the Bible’s teaching (doctrine).  We will not from the so-called moral standards of society, but from God’s perfect, holy, and infallible standpoint.

The author of sin.

Sin originated with Satan, before he became Satan, and entered the world through Adam and became universal, resulting in physical and spiritual death.  Satan became the first sinner, when lifted up with pride, he desired equality with God. (Isaiah 14:12-14)

1 John 3:8  He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

The course of sin.

James 1:15  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. (Some names of sin:)

Deceit, drunkards, perversion, vanity, filth, rebellion, disobedience, liars, murderers, pride.

 The nature of sin.

Man is born to sin (Psalm 51:5) but not born a slave to sin. Sin can be summarized in a threefold way.

  1. It is a state The absence of righteousness.
  2. It is a nature Enmity toward God.
  3. It is an act The violation of, or want of obedience to the revealed Word of God.

1 John 3:4  Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

(This verse teaches us that sin is lawlessness, defection from any of God’s standards)

The wages of sin.

The wages of sin is universal physical death.

All have sinned (Rom. 3:23)

Death passed upon all men (Rom. 5:12)

The wages of sin is death (Rom. 6:23)

The sin of sins.

Not believing the Son of God (John 3:36)

Not believing on Jesus Christ (John 16:9)

The judgment of sin.

The judgment of sin is condemnation (John 3:18)

The judgment of sin is damnation (John 5:27-29)

The sacrifice of sin.

One sacrifice for our sin is Jesus Christ.

Old Testament (Isaiah chapter 53)       New Testament (II Cor. 5:21; Heb. 10:12)
