The Folly of Federation Between The Church and The World

THE FOLLY OF FEDERATION BETWEEN THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD
THE TRUE (JESUS) CHURCH (CHRIST)

This outline was taken out of R. E. Neighbour’s booklet “the Folly of Federation between the Church and the World” I have added the Scriptures and notes in  Italics.

#1 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That the righteousness which is of God is opposite and distinct to the righteousness of the world, and, therefore, she can have no fellowship with the world in moral reforms and social campaigns which eliminate the gospel of the cross.

Galatians 1:8-9 (KJV)
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9
As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed. (No discussions, no deviations, no doubts)

#2 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That God has called the believer out of the world, and will not for a moment allow the barriers which forever separate her and the world to be broken down while she joins hands with it in an effort for a world-betterment

2 Corinthians 6:17 (KJV) Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,

#3 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That her mission is not to make this a better world, but to preach individual salvation from the penalty of sin through the crucified, salvation from the power of sin through the risen Christ, and salvation from the presence of sin through the coming of Christ.

Matthew 28:19-20 (KJV) 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holv Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, 10, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

#4 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That her mission is not to keep the world from going to the devil, because the world, even now, is lying in the lap of the devil, and is rapidly preparing to receive the Anti-Christ.

Isaiah 58:1 (KJV) Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression. and the house of Jacob their sins.
Matthew 24:14 (KJV) And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.

#5 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That the novelist who hobnobs with Satan, the church’s adversary, and cries that Christ is “down and out,” has utterly misjudged the work of Christ and His Church. Jesus still is able to save the sinner, any sinner, every sinner, who will believe, and Jesus is able to keep him safe in His life; but Jesus, never, either by example or precept, taught His Church to enter the realm of social-regeneration.

Acts 20:28-30 (KJV) 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

#6 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That this is an age of humanism, that the world has decided that it is its own savior, that the world is seeking to put down sin and bring in righteousness without repentance, without any faith, and without any obedience to the Christ.

John 1:29 (KJV) The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Ephesians 5:23-26 (KJV) 23 For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

Christ gave himself for the church, that he might sanctify it in this world, and glorify it in the next, that he might bestow on all his members a principle of holiness, and deliver them from the guilt, the pollution, and the dominion of sin. (Matthew Henry Concise Bible Commentary.)

#7 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That the energy and money expended in the work of world reformation can at best but result in a transient and passing reform, which sin in the heart will soon overthrow. that if one evil, as that of drink is put down, the evil in the heart will only develop in some other way.

Leviticus 26:3-4 (KJV) 3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them; (Not world Reformation)
Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.
(Read up to verse 13 about God’s promises to those who reform to His way. Then starting in verse 14 we see what God will do if we reform to the worlds ways.)

#8 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That an old-time revival of Holy Ghost religion, which brings men to God, and puts a new spirit in them, is the only hope of sinners.

Psalm 119:145-149 (KJV)
145 I cried with my whole heart; hear me, O LORD: I will keep thy statutes.  (Revival in my heart)
146 I cried unto thee; save me, and I shall keep thy testimonies. (Revival in my testimonies)
147 I prevented the dawning of the morning, and cried: I hoped in thy word. (Revival in my prayers)
148 Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word. (Revival in reading the Word of God)
149 Hear my voice according unto thy lovingkindness: O LORD, quicken me according to thy judgment. (your loving kindness is a revival in my heart)

2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (Revival God’s way, my only hope)

#9 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That reformation is not regeneration.

John 3:3 (KJV) Jesus answered and said unto him. Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, be cannot see the kingdom of God. (REGENERATION)
Matthew 6:33 (KJV, But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (REFORMATION)

#10 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That it is unnecessary to put down the places of sin, (which God says cannot be put down), in order to keep the drunkard just saved from backsliding, she knows that Jesus will save the drunkard to the uttermost.

Acts 1:8 (KJV) But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria. and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

#11 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That it is not necessary to put down the places of sin, (which God says cannot be put down), in order to protect the boys from an immoral life, she knows that what is needed is salvation. the familv, altar at home, the teaching of the Word. and the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 1:12-13 (KJV) That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ; In whom ye alsotrusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise.

#12 THE TRUE CHURCH KNOWS
That full many churches, active in cleaning up the city, have a God-given command, and a manifest need of cleaning up within their own courts. That the Church may well demand of her own life separate from worldliness, drinking, dancing, card-playing, theater-going, which she has no right to demand of those who are living in sin, and not under her authority.

Kings 18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? If the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

Revelation 3:15 I know thy works. that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art {lukewarm}, and neither cold nor hot, 1will spue thee out of my mouth.
Revelation 3:22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

There is one thing man should really fear.  ”And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul: but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” And who is that? Men can kill the body. Animals can kill us the body. Diseases can kill the body. Accidents can kill the body. Satan can kill the bodv, but only God can destroy both the soul and body in hell. Jesus mentioned it in Matthew 10:28 (KJV)

Conclusion:
Beware, oh, you who have become confederate with the world, lest in that day you should say: “…..Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Romans 13:11-12  And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.
Rev. 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward [is] with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

May the following words become a reality in our lives as we crown Him Lord and serve Him in the TRUE CHURCH.
“The Church and the World cannot join hands in efforts for civic righteousness, social regeneration and world betterment, because their (the world) standards of righteousness and of right living are distinct and opposite of the True Church.”

THOUGHT TO PONDER
Revelation 2:14-16:
The Nicolaitans compromised greatly with the culture. In Revelations 2:6, Ephesus was commended for hating the deeds of the Nicolaitans. In Pergamum, however, their deeds are not only not hated, but they are tolerated within the church. God desires greatly that His people not be spotted by the world.

Revelation 2:12-13:
We also live in a wicked world. Can we remain true to His name?
